We took Bailey bud up to the field for a leg stretch and to see how Billy would cope with a giant dog bounding around the place (seperate fields but close together). Bailey was going nuts at the end of a hollow jump pipe. I lifted it up and there was the massive rat that we have been trying to get rid of for ages. I'm not bothered by rats so I grabbed the pipe and started shaking it thinking the rat would go back down and Bailey could dispatch it. Gave it a good shake and looked down the pipe and the bloody thing had moved up the pipe and was about 8 inches from my face. I screamed, dropped the pipe, Bailey ran away, giant ratty popped out and Billy clearly unbothered by the commotion just watched quietly. Ratty ran under his feet and Billy killed him quickly and quietly.
Bailey has now recovered from his ordeal, he needed a cuddle and a play wth his cardboard tube, honestly its a good job he's cute because he's bloody useless! Billy is great, so easy to do and unphased by anything, and he loves a good game of fetch!

I would have freaked. We have some rats mooching about- dont see them often but I know they are there. If one does cross my path I shudder for ages, despite knowing its scuttling off and hasnt touched me etc. I think its an instinctive thing and a throwback to the Black Death and other diseases. I dont mind pet rats (wouldnt have one but could cope) its just the wild variety.

Gawd no, I can't do rats. I think that if one has chickens, there will always be rats nearby, but I can't see them without freaking. Well done Billy!!!! (And yes, I have a soppy dog too grrrr )
