Took Racaille to a complet at the same place as last time yesterday and things could not have been more different. He was in a strop all day.
Although he warmed up for the dressage quite nicely, the moment he got into the arena he durned into the devil. I am not talking about a poor test, I am talking about appalling behaviour. He got off to a great start by doing a spinning mini rear during the presentation and showering the judge with mud Then he did his trademark bouncing front end, head thrown in the air, sideways jogging etc etc. We stood there openmouthed, I have never seen him so disobedient.
So our coach made him go back into the warm-up arena and blow me, he worked beautifully, some really amazing lateral work too. No surprise when he came in last in a field of 17.
The teenager had seen that the XC had a few nasty surprises in it, a tricky turn and a difficult entry to the water and sure enough five people were eliminated, others had refusals, so she moved up to eighth place.
But Rac was not on form for the SJ. The teenager did the best she could but he kept trailing his hind legs and brought four bars down. Not his best effort. But the teenager was pretty pleased not to have been eliminated and even more so to finally come in seventh. But it was by a process of elimination, literally!
There was no reason Rac was so bolshy and careless. Everything depends on how he feels at the time and clearly yesterday he was in a strop. Never mind. We had a fab day out, lots of laughs with our team (the other two girls came in 1st and 2nd but they normally compete at a higher level although yesterday their classes were full). So on balance, great fun.
