This could either go here or in dressage ...
Had a great day at our dressage/SJ training day yesterday. It was pretty hot (T shirts only) and we had a relaxed start so very pleasant set-off.
Started with dressage and Paco was going beautifully, working really well, and my coach commented on how fantastic he looked. But for the first time, she kept on at me that my legs were too far back (she said that between me and the teenager, who has a tendency to have her legs too far forward as a defence on R, she said it would have been perfect!) Never had this comment before but it was the first time I've used the TG saddle for dressage and wonder if the blocks throw my legs back when the stirrups are longer. Anyway, something to think about and work on.
But we worked really hard on some great exercises, including some counter canter.
By the afternoon though I was pooped. It was hot, I am not sleeping at all due to all the stress of everything else (moving house) and I was really tired. We warmed up over some jumps which went up to 85cm and Paco was doing beautiful work and I was comfortable.
But come the time to do a course of 10, I was finished and I just could not learn the course. So the same problem as last time, I got lost and poor old Paco, he didn't know where I wanted him to go. I was just a sack of potatoes.
We did some more work over combinations, which was great, but I just could not face doing another course so I bottled out which I regret really but I felt that as tired as I was (four hours of intensive riding by then) I was likely to come off if I made a mistake.
One big thing I realised was that I am not fit enough for a course of jumps. Whoever said riding wasn't a sport? So I need to up my fitness and breathing levels big time.
Feel quite motivated actually.
