As the title says, where would you have drawn the line for riding...today?
Would it have been : -
A) the fact that it is chucking it down?
B) the gale force winds?
C) the ankle-deep mud?
D) the limited time, hence deciding to ride bareback?
E) taking the dog with you?
Or
F) all of the above?
NOT US! We, a bunch of nutters, decided to brave the weather (which, to be fair, was quite nice when we set off...it was about 2 minutes later that the wind decided to pick up and the heavens opened) and went out for a hack around the XC course. The wind almost took the hat off my head, even though it is strapped on, and on the way home I was almost blown sideways off Faith's back by the wind! We waded through a ginormous puddle (SOOOO wanted to take a pic but daren't let go of my reins for fear of being blown away or my pony doing something daft and leaving me behind) which much have been at least 1ft deep (went almost to faiths knees) and about 10m across...Oscar attempted to swim as it was that deep...until he saw Faith do the smart thing and aim for edges, and then he followed her through the shallower bits.
Thankfully my pony is an awesome superstar and barely batted an eyelid at the howling wind or the pouring rain (or the nutter of a dog who goes by the name of Oscar who has decided to charge around like a loon, jump over/in every puddle and dirt mound he could find and then run in between Faith's legs as she's trying to walk...*rolls eyes*) but I couldn't help thinking as I was going round "there's nothing riding bareback on slippery ground in a howling gale and pouring rain to test your seat (and/or how bombproof your pony is )"
Safe to say that we are not fair weather ridersshe says whilst snuggled up in her jim jams with a nice mug of hot chocolate!
