Thought id do a quick update on recent competition successes or otherwise!
This year the riding school have been running a league of mixed disciplines to find the ultimate all rounder!
The first week was arena eventing which i did on a young connemara pony who i had really enjoyed riding in the summer time although he has a massive jump in him. Entered the 65cms and the course was very tight and twisty - W has a tendency to take a massive leap over the jump and then its quite hard to get yourself gathered together again afterwards! however was getting on ok and cantering bits and pieces of the course, before getting a dirty stop at the cottage, near went out the front door! But it was just because i wasnt gathered together and was just kinda hoping he'd sail on lol Took him round to it again and not a bother. Anyway, entered again for another go and this time i decided to try keeping to a trot and i ended up with a much more controlled and accurate round.
Second leg of the league was dressage - was too late to get the same pony so decided to just share the horse mum had booked. 15.1hh black cob mare also quite young but very quiet (and lazy lol) I ended up winning my class with 70.5%!! Never been so chuffed - ive never really done that well at dressage before, and it was a big plus because M is quite hard to ride in that she gets strung out and you have to really hold her together and she can be very lazy and not respond when you ask - got her well motoring in the warm up although the canter transitions werent great - in the test i had to keep at her a lot in the canter bits but the rest of it just felt smooth and fluid.
Third leg was showjumping - mum didnt get on very well with M and really struggled to get her going forward so she swapped onto S (so now we are pretty much out of the league, ah well!) - 15.1hh bay cob, an old hand! Had a great round on him in the 65s and mum got on much better too.
Fourth leg was working hunter which was just there on sunday past - we took S again - I was so so pleased with how he went, he was really on the ball and he was jumping out of a nice stride but i managed to ride past fence 8 so was so disappointed!! I went on to do my showpiece - it was quite short as i thought that the judge wouldnt want to see me going round and round considering she had already seen S out in the class before. However, when i looked at my scores they said it was too short. And even more disappointingly i think i came last in the class! Oh well, i did enjoy myself and had the added bonus that i plaited S's tail (my first time plaiting a tail!) and it stayed in! lol
The fifth leg is next week, and arena eventing again although not sure if we will be going or not.
On another note, im planning on taking my share pony to a dressage competition on sunday, doing prelim 13!
