Does anybody wear waterproof trousers or chaps for riding in the winter? If so what make are they and what do you think of them? Im thinking it would be a good investment to get a pair as my legs and bum are always freezing in winter and now im just riding outdoors all the time it would help keep up the motivation Ive googled and read on horse and hound but theres so many recommendations for different brands i just got confused! Plus im not sure whether trousers or chaps would be better - chaps may be less bulky but i do get a cold bum lol! Anyway, i wear long boots for everyday riding so would need something to accommodate this and they would need to be flexible enough for riding in the arena and hacking (dont want to feel like the michelin man lol) Thanks for any suggestions!

I have waterproof fleece-lined full chaps which are GORGEOUS to ride in...kind of like riding in your jim jams . I think they are Rambo or something like that. Might be lying lol. Will have a look at the label tomorrow. Have to admit that your bum can be a bit cold to start with, especially on a leather saddle, but once you start riding and/or mucking out etc you soon warm everything up . Wouldnt be without my chaps. Dont wear them often but they are marvellous for the odd time i do need them (deffo easier than riding in jodhs with trackies over the top! Or waterproof trousers...they tend to be rather slippy and bunch/ride up). Will have a look for the name tomorrow. Dont think they were majorly expensive, maybe £25-30?

They are horseware chaps (think they also say rambo on them ). If you google 'waterproof fleece-lined full chaps' then you will find loads. They seem to have gone up a bit in price since i bought mine a few years ago, but even at £30-40 instead of £25-30, IMO they are still worth every penny . Equestrian clearance have some hi-vis sort of full chaps which finish just below the knee...meant to accommodate long boots or something (mine zip up so i just leave them a bit open if they dont want to fasten all the way).

I've got robinsons own brand over trousers which i've had for years now. I would imagine they'd be slippy if you rode on a leather saddle but they are fine with my hydro torsions. They just pull on so are great for keeping in the car for before/after work as i am often doing the horses on the run so to speak. One thing is sometimes they are almost too warm as fully lined! (is that a problem...not for me as i'm very nesh). They have zips at the lower leg so i just unzip over long boots but they will pull over top and still zip and have foot elastic to stop riding up.
I've also got some of those kitt huggs (?) chaps...wetsuit material...they are actually quite good but i struggle to fit them over long boots, i have to leave them unzipped and despite the tight legs the waist on them is massive so sizings probably not the best. Again they are warm and fully waterproof and not too bulky as sudede cahps can be.
They do unlined pull on over trousers at yeomans and similiar type outdoorsie shops, my OH has some for work and they are only about a tenner and fully waterproof.

I like the idea of fully lined haffy - im a cold rife person haha! Still undecided over trousers or chaps - may buy a pair of the horseware chaps and try them on and see what i think and if not maybe look into some lined trousers - although i have a feeling chaps would probably be cheaper but will see if the chaps are gonna work first anyway.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

I have a pair of waterproof trousers from Decathlon as well as my chaps. They were about a fiver. Not very warm and quite slippery to ride in BUT they are handy to keep in the car and certainly keep you dry...even when its p*ssing it down outside Might be something to think about if you decide to go down the chaps route (you can never have too many clothes!!)
