I have engaged myself for a derby cross at Manosque on Sunday. Dunno what you call it, it's when you have a knock-down pole over a XC jump on a XC course. I'm only doing the baby level (60cm) to see how my nerves get on. I have a flip-over tummy already just thinking about it but I'm telling myself that's excitement.  Actually it should be fun. The teenager is also doing it on Rac, as well as the hunter class which is a laugh as they will also be judged on style. Style? Racaille? He'll probably lose marks just for his name .....  |

In training now! I was worried that Paco wouldn't manage a two and a half minute gallop but like most of my worries, it turned out to be nonsense! Just taken him for a blast (that I timed to make sure) and he wasn't even blowing afterwards. But I was! I kept telling myself to breathe so I did but still felt quite puffed but the worst was my legs turned to jelly - not used to that length of time en equilibre! I'm hoping it is that I was riding in my rando saddle and was too lazy to adjust the stirrups so they were at dressage length. I'll try it again tomorrow in the Thorowgood, at the correct length and see how I get on. Been popping logs for some time now, even since the lumberjacks left a few down in the forest. My big goal for Sunday: not to fall off in the water. Despite the fact that P canters through water happily (no, not happily, but he goes through :  round here, he is well capable of a dirty stop just in front of a gué. I shall try to ride it like I really mean it!  |
