Last week Brave and I had our first canter in nearly 3 months, just once around the school on each rein, but it was amazing, not only that he is sound again and shows no sign of lameness but he was light, responsive, and carrying himself on the bit and it was probably one of the best canters we have ever had!
I am now wondering if I can get him fit enough for a dressage comp at the end of november, but on the other hand I dont want to push my luck as he has only been back in work 3 weeks

Sometimes a break can do them the world of good. I've had that with ed where for one reason or other she'd not get worked for a few weeks. I'd get on expecting to have to start over but she'd go better than ever. Glad he's feeling well. Did you actually get to the bottom of his problem? See how he is at the end of the month. If he's back in full work at home, no reason a dressage test should do him any harm. Even if you come down a level and just treat it as a schooling session.

Great news Fi, you should be fine for your comp, especially as he was fit before his lay off! Must be lovely having him back right.
