Always best to get a trained saddle fitter. ;D They will have a range of saddles for you to pick through, and ride in. And as a consumer you will have rights if there is a problem. No harm in getting your friend in double checking the saddlers fitting to be on the safe side.

Yeah I would 100% say get a saddler out. They dont have to be expensive you can say that you have a particular price range for a saddle! Its always best in the long run as a bad saddle can and will start millions of behavioural and mental issues with the horsey! Always better to be safe!

Definately yes an incorrectly fitting saddle causes so many problems so prevention is better than cure. Make sure the saddler is a member of the society of master saddlers as they are qualified and registered. Visit www.MasterSaddlers.co.uk to find your nearest one. Happy shopping!!

get a saddler out, tell them what you are looking for, when I had a young horse fitted I told them I didn't want to spend much money as I knew he would chnage shape, so they brough just a selction of good quality 2nd hand saddles all priced at less than £350, so they don't have to be expensive

I know of a very good saddler who i had to fit Gems saddle. Theyre down in Suffolk, but travel the country (im 4hrs away, and only said call out would be £30) and dont charge call out if you buy a saddle.
Id always use Bridlepath International tbh, they ask a fair amount of questions on the phone to find out what you and your horse are wanting to do, your heights, type of horse etc. They bring loads of saddles out in a van and you ride in all the ones you like out of those that fit. ;D
