Don't know if this is common knowledge that I seem to have missed out on until now or if I've actually discovered something useful BUT... ...this morning when grooming Faith (who is moulting like a good 'un) I happened upon a clever way of emptying the plastic curry comb without having to stick my fingers in between the bristles and pull the hairs out. It's so simple that I'm amazed I never did it before!!! Basically you groom your horse until the brush is full, tap the brush against the wall several times (bristle side facing the wall) and then tap the brush sideways against the wall (bristle side facing the floor this time) and the hairs will magically fall out of the bristles and leave you with a marvellously clean brush and pain-free fingers! (pain free because you haven't had to stick your fingers between a load of plastic bristles which have a tendency to poke and prod your little pinkies ). As already stated - I don't know if this is common knowledge that no one ever thought to clue me in on OR if it's a clever trick that will make my life waaaaaaaaaay easier when grooming a hairy beasty BUT I was so impressed with my discovery that I just had to share

I do that too! I bang it on the side of the trailer or on a fence post and its great. Next time you're down the tack shop get one of those metal hoofpick/combs. The comb bit works amazing for manes but the hoofpick is useless as the comb part digs in but ... dun dun dun, use it to pull the hair from between the lines on curry combs etc, no more painful or dusty fingers . Maybe we should start a thread for random tips .
