Took Ed out tonight on a usual route. Coming homewards we pass a field which belongs to the stepfather of my old RI. He breeds, so there is quite often different horses ranging from the retired dressage horses to the old breeding stallion or mares and foals in the field. Tonight passed by and there was a herd of this years babies - all lovely cob types, I'm assuming its weaning time. In amongst them was a little coloured youngster who he rescued last year which had been dumped as a foal on nearby estate land (bless him he was only a couple of months old, dumped with another colt)called Boris. Boris has met Eddie in the past and they were quite taken with each other - Eddie who is normally a complete grump with other horses was extremely motherly and caring with little B when they met. Anyway, it's been at least a year since they last saw each other but tonight as we passed Boris went loopy. I have no idea if he recognised her or if it was just the excitement of a horse passing by but he left the herd and was cantering and calling alongside the hedge. We carried on past the field boundary for a hundred yards or so when Eddie threw a hissy and spun round - Boris was haring down the track towards us!! The little monkey had jumped a barbed wire fence into the next field and found a gap in the next hedge! I'm having kittens at this point. Although Boris is little, I think he's uncut. And we have a loose foal on a footpath! Stupidly I didn't have my mobile with me but thankfully there was a family walking their dog who did - and who also knew the owner. Boris and Eddie were re-aquainted!! Thankfully Eddie was not quite so friendly this time and made it quite clear that he should stay away from her! I'd got off by this point so led her back up to the main gateway (so Boris followed) and he was quite content grazing nearby while we waited for J (owner)to arrive. Poor Ed was very wound up - I have the bruise on my arm from her biting me - a habit she has when stressed (thats another thread) and I was very grateful when little Boris was herded back in with his friends. This time on walking away he didn't show the slightest bit of interest in following - clearly the grass isn't always greener!! Good old Ed was true to form and after a joggy 5 minutes calmed down for the rest of the journey home. Think I might be avoiding that route for a while though!!
