I love white ducks, my neighbour's duck is broody and she has promised me some ducklings if they hatch successfully. I have decided Im having some geese as well, to live with the turkey, just need some babies now.

I do like geese. We have toulouse geese. But problem with them is their so noisy! Mind you the ducks can be just as bad. They know where the food is and make that much noise until you feed them, in which then the geese come along! I do fancy chickens at some point when get somewhere to have them.

Little duckling didn't make it - OH found it outside dead partially hatched so not sure if it got exhausted or she just freaked out and dumped it. Been through the whole if only we'd noticed sooner but you could go forever. RIP little derek duckling.

That's very sad Haf. But you can't blame yourself, she was probably too young to make a good mum or she would have helped little Derek.

Oh dear, poor little duckling, but having fowl and becoming accustomed to their rather haphazard lives I think Rac is right. Nothing you could have done. Weve just lost three little chicks, unhatched because the mother left the nest to get her two hatchlings out and let them go cold. I was doing the "wish Id noticed etc etc but its just nature!

would you believe it...something is trying to tell us no ducklings. Incubator went kaput this evening, candled them and 3 growing so, and for once luck was on our side [we think], there was one finishing on ebay in bolsover in just 20 mins, which didn't meet it's reserve. Seller very accomodating and said we could go straight over and collect but what a stressful early evening we had prior trying to think what to do. Ended up wrapping them in a wool rug (even OH had to admit horses have their uses at times!) with a heat lamp over as Jemima didn't want to sit on them this time (little minx!)
