I took Brave to a Derby show on Saturday... and lets just say it wasnt our day...
I was doing two 70cm classes the first a clear round type class and the secod they derby class with a big derby bank water jump and ditch.
Had a cricket score in the clear round as Brave was trying to jump with his legs crossed! and something went wrong at the second fence when he thought he was going one way and I thought we were going the other and very nearly parted company decimating the fence in the process, 2 more refusals as it knocked both of our confidence and a moment when he grabbed the bit and took off around the arena with me having little of no brakes...
then had a 3 hour wait until the next class in the heat...
The Derby class was being filmed by Scottish Equestrian TV and had two professional photographers in the ring as well as the film crew... lets just say Brave got stage fright between fences two and three when he spied them all and swiftly went into reverse... I did get him over fence two but by that stage his poor brain was frazzled and he spooked at the crowd in front of fence four resulting in out elimination so I never got anywhere near the bank or the ditch or the water...
absolutely gutted. anyway here is a link to the rather comical series of photographs between fences two and three...
it starts quite nicely at fence 2 then gets worse, the one that makes me laugh is where he is standing at fence 3 looking over the jump directly at the camera
