I went to a jump cross competition today at my riding school. I had the most amazing day ever! Our neighbours took their horse and I travelled with them so it was a great wee day out with all of us there - i kinda miss that part of having your own horse - going to shows and having the craic and a nice wee day out and all - the riding school shows let you have a bit of that which is great.
Anyway, was riding Z, 14hh approx bay cob type gelding - he was a superstar! Went over everything without a blink and hes only about 6 or 7 yrs!
I entered for the 65cm class and i woke up this morning nearly sick with nerves - the weather was so good today, there was a massive crowd and my class didnt start till after 3pm so we had a long wait which did nothing for the nerves lol! - my neighbour was doing the same class on his mare who hasnt really jumped any cross country fences before, so he probably had more reason to be nervous than me, but she never really looks at anything anyway lol!
There was 7 showjumps in the outdoor arena and then you had to jump out of the arena at C and into the cross country field. Z was great, he didnt even blink at all the spectators and just powered on through the gap! Unfortunately, we had fence 3 down - white planks. The XC course was in one corner of the field and went round in a spiral shape so easy enough to remember! Fence 1 on the cross country was a telegraph pole leading into the field - fence 2 was a red cottage - fence 3 was blue plastic barrels (which he kind of slithered over lol)- fence 4 was a flower box - fence 5 was a hanging log - fence 6 was another cottage - fence 7 was a bank/mound which you had to go up and then down the other side - fence 8 was a wooden palisade type thing and then through the finish! Some of the fences were fixed and some were portable - fence 5 I had never jumped before in my life so i felt really proud for going over it no problem!
I enjoyed it so much i decided to pay for another round at the same height and i went again at the end of the class - this time i left the planks up (woo!) and tried to canter on half a gear more - it was brilliant, i wish i could go out and do it all again!
Neighbour was really pleased with how his horse went, so an all round good day!
To top off an already brilliant day, i managed to draw the first prize in the prizegiving for the class and got a nice rosette! They must have counted the 2nd round - so doubly a good thing i decided to go again lol!
Managed to get a few pics, thanks to my neighbour, so will put them in pics!
