I've just started reading Claire Balding's book "My family and Other Animals" and I'm loving it. It's funny, tragic and well written; I can't put it down. Has anyone else read it?

I dont really like her, though I cant seem to put my finger on why, but the book has been recommended and I will read it at some point.

She's everywhere, literally when you turn tv on these days, thats part of it...green eyed monster probably at the fab events she gets paid to go to. I also hate the way she dumbs things down instead of just explaining herself (like about Ben Mahers horses nosenet on sat) but thats probably part of her brief.

I was once watching racing and she was passing commentary (to fill the time)whilst the horse was being reshod before the start and was saying how well kept the horses were and how anyone thinking racing was cruel just had to watch how alert and well all the horses looked. It came across as really patronising. On another occasion a horse broke it leg and was seen to be in distress before it was caught, something placatory was said on air but as the camera panned away you could hear her in the background saying something like "OFGS it only a horse, what's the fuss?" I bet the sound man got a telling off but something of her true colours perhaps?
