Wanting to rekindle my enthusiasm for endurance so when a friend asked if I wanted to do this one and agreed to loan me a horse I jumped at it. I rode Tasha a spanish cross warmblood who is pretty much perfect and very fit. The ride was only ten miles and the weather was perfect-warm and sunny but not blazing hot. My friend was riding her three year old (almost four) PRE who is broken and riding on so we kept the pace steady and only trotted and cantered on good going, keeping most of the way to a walk and gossip. It was truly lovely to be doing this again (the good weather and a well mannered horse helped!!) The only issue was my friends saddle which was awful! If I had been sat on a cattle grid for three hours I would have fared better so needless to say Im a bit sore today but happily not too stiff.
Need to get Basil fittened up so we can have another go!

Wow! Sounds fab! Shame about your little sister though or is it your @rse?? Just got my comfy saddle back and what a difference. Saddles are crucial to good riding!

Sounds like a lovely day out, bar the saddle. You need a gel pad to protect your tender bits!

Treat yourseklf to a heather moffat seat bone saver, i always used one when i rode treed...they last forever too. My original was about 15 years old when i sold it.
It's great you had a good day, the weather has been so nice too! Regarding basil, if he really gets over excited competing (i'm sure you've said this in the past) could you just not do the fittening work and rather than actual organised rides just take him on less exciting day trips to new places so it's not so stressful all round (borrow your friends ride maps!)

Ive done that too in the past Haffy and will use that as a way of getting him fitter then just see how it goes! I think as long as I give him time to settle once there it should be ok, most problems have happened when its all been a bit rushed at the start. I also need to be able to trot him on for the first ten mins or so so if Ive someone slow in front then I know Im in for it!

That sounds like a lovely day! I second the HM seat saver recommendation, they are brilliant.

I have to say I don't like the HM seat savers - tried one recently and found that it held me too firmly in place. I was very disappointed.

funnily enough Jane I prefer the sheepskin ones, my bum cheeks will rub at the slightest chance and the HM seems to aggravate it.
