Well we set off at one to go along the ridgeway. Takes about an hour and a half so thought Pete would cope as he is doing very well. We planned his first short canter along the ridge between two fields. I was really looking forward to it. He hasn't really cantered at all under saddle yet. We got to the ridge and the ground was rock hard, amazing as we have had a fair bit of rain. So decided to go round 'the gallops' This is a track of set aside for horses and walkers around some enormous farmers fields. We walked over there and planned a short canter once we had got the twisty bends out of the way. I led and Pete popped up into canter easily and happily. He is stayed in a strong but steady pace until about 100metres when I asked him to stop. Cue HUGE smiles from me! I felt quite emotional, almost tears of joy! He is my superstar and I could'nt love him more! He got to stuff his face with grass while we chatted and let them catch their breath. We will probably go back there net weekend for more summer pony fun! Tea and cookies all round!

Really really great news, so pleased for you that he is doing so well. A real credit to all the hard work and tears that have gone into getting him right again.

Woohoo! Great news. Where are you based btw? About 15 years ago ( ) I kept my TB near Uffington for a summer and riding on the Ridgeway was awesome. We also did the odd sneaky ride over to the Lambourn gallops

Nowhere near there Pboy. We are in Hampshire sort of between Portsmouth and Southampton. The area we ride in is the edge of the South Downs National Park. It's really lovely.
