I am contemplating removing all bedding from Dexter's box... he is THE MOST DISGUSTING horse I have ever had the misfortune to muck out. I also think he as got into the habit of peeing (aka flooding) his box everytime I appear. But he is a little sneaky about it. He waits until you are busy mid rug change or feed prep when he lets rip and usually finishes by the time you have put down what you are doing have grabbed a bucket and got to his stable door. He goes through the same amount of bedding in 2 days as the others do in 2-3 weeks and its costing me a small fortune. Also waits to come in to pee (rather than in the field) and pees just before you take him out!!! As they all have rubber matting, so if I took the bedding out he wouldn't be left on a concrete floor but I am hoping he might be encouraged to pee outside rather than in his box as the splash back would be worse... Sometimes I do wonder why I keep him!

vile, but it does show he is completely relaxed and happy in your company!

if the matting is adequate I'd leave him with just enough to soak up the pee to stop him becoming a stinky ponio!

Harry was the messiest horse I have ever known and I put him on a small amount of miscanthus grass and rubber matting - worked really well...
