YAY! I'm off with my mates for a two-day rando on Saturday. We will box the horses about an hour away - I always like new terrain and this is in a direction I have never ridden before There are a couple of newbies joining our group and the horsey world is small: I am taking one of them and she now owns the Merens I used to ride a lot when he was young and at my first club. He had two problems: he often refused to canter, it was ruddy difficult to make him .... and he was terrified of noise and would shoot off - yes, then he would canter! Be interesting to see him now. Our rando includes the obligatory wine tasting and we will stay the night at a gite equestre with the horses in small paddocks. We will sleep in a dormitory so it will be interesting to see who snores! Please don't let it be me!!!!!!

Oh and we will be doing six hours in the saddle on Saturday four on Sunday. My saddle is wonderful but I'll be taking some seat savers that I have hanging around for the others ....

Wow, that sounds like bliss! I'm already fantasising about my short trip to Spain in two weeks...I'll probably only have time for two hacks but it will be amazing after all the arena time I do here. I'm very jealous of all your randonneur-ing!!

Oh heaven. I can't wait to get the bug back in work so I can go hacking with friends though we aren't out for as long as you.
Is a rando like an endurance ride? Thats probably a silly question.

No, it's not a silly question BD. And no, it's not endurance, it's at a much slower pace. We will have some nice canters of course, but a lot of it will be at walk with some trotting and generally when we are going down mountains we get off and walk too as it's easier for the horses on the stones and rocks 9hence the need for my new sturdy-soled boots). Randos are convivial, we all chat etc depending on which horses like/dislike each other. I shall be putting a red ribbon on Paco as he is always annoyed by other horses stepping on his heels and you can never be sure if other riders respect the distance between horses as they should. There will be a stop for a picnic lunch and the weather forecast is good

Teenager not coming: not her sort of thing and no horse ready. R isn't fit enough and Sam would not cope with the terrain. She has to stay here and look after the others anyway!
