Emir gets a snotty nose at this time of year. he got it last year and YO rang me to say he wasnt very well as he had a snotty nose.... went up, brought him in and after being in stable for a few hours it cleared up. he wasnt coughing and didnt have a temperature. vet came the next day to do flu vacs and she said it was a reaction to the spring grass. a pony that was on our yard used to get a really sore nose, like sunburn and that was a reaction to grass. Emir got it this year too, although not as bad as other pony, whose whole nose was blistered.

i know someone who had their horse tested to allergies as she used to be terrible with huge bumps all over her body. it turned out she was allergic to certain types of grass, sugar beet. she sectioned off the part that she was allergic to and it helped. she used to have to wear a fly rug all the time as her owner thought it was fly bites but it was this grass. it cost about £50 to test but she said it was worth it.

It seems to be quite common this time of year, shouldn't last much longer though.

We have a horse on our yard that gets snotty etc at this time of year. The owner has now put her on AllergAllay by Equine Herbals ("Particularly supports the mucous membranes and skin exposed to the effects of seasonal changes, dust and environmental irritants.") It is amazing - really worked on the mare. Might be worth a try.

that's what vet reckons raymond has - hay fever in summer and dust allergy in winter. I have had him on pollenx from global herbs for nearly two weeks and it seems to be helping.
He did have a bit of coughing fit though - so vet given him ventipulmin for a few days to settle it down.
