Spotti's original post about crossing an uber busy main route to sheffield and Sols subsequent comment made me think about all the silly things you did in your youth 9usually) that you wouldn't dream of doing now. The one i remember is (back in the days before supertram) is riding my traffic shy pony straight through the middle of hillsborough on a saturday morning, down through the busy shopping area, in order to meet some friends at rivelin who we had arranged to ride with ride with. We often used to ride up leppings lane too (by Sheffield Wednesday football ground) as they had shows in the park at hillsborough and also to get to wadsley common as it was quicker than the quieter route by a good hour or more. As a concession to safety we used to get to the island via the bierly woods road (by fletchers) rather than down the major carriageway! There was also the day my friend C, who rides Harry a bit now, decided it would be a good idea to come home from riding on the old train line (now the trans pennine trail) at wortley along the top road. Fortunately we got almost all the way back to the bad bend before a lorry came past and sunny sh1t himself or i think i would have died if we'd not been able to get him off the road and calmed down).

Crikey! Sounds very dangerous! You still see people round here riding on very busy narrow roads. I think it's crazy!

Caramba! I suppose that is one benefit of getting older and wiser .... I didn't have the opportunity to ride as a youngster so all my mad 'did I really do that?' escapades took place when I was old enough to know better. But I still did some very stupid things ......

I used to cross a dual carriageway and stand in the middle with lorries and cars speeding past both in front and behind us in Worksop. I also used to canter down the grass verge along Gateford road. I wouldn't do either now but it didn't bother me at the time. There is lots of other silly things but they are the first things that come to mind.

Haffy we come from the same "place" lol, I've ridden up the tram tracks up Middlewood Road and Parkside Road to get to shows in Hillsborough Park. We used to regularly go round the "one way" system on Holme Lane either going or coming from Wadsley Common.

I used to do lots of stupid things as a kid on my pony, the worst must have been the time that I decided me and Freedom were going to have a go at bull fighting with one of my uncles more volatile bulls, I learnt that day that if your pony bolts go with him, he outran the bull and jumped the 4ft gate to get away, not bad for an 11.2hh. And hacking up a 60mph speed limit road on a less than bombproof Savs who decided that if she couldn't see the traffic it wouldn't hurt her - so bum in the traffic it was. Now I just stand on their backs and try to do the macarena, harder than it looks because they tend to either be grazing or moving at the time .

Have a look at my thread about my hack yesterday, where the naughty teenager in me was allowed to rule for a while...
but yes I too used to hack down 60mph roads when I lived in Yorkshire, basically because there wasnt a choice, I parked Figaro on the pavement at the traffic lights in Holmfirth whilst we stopped for fish and chips...
I rode the Mary Townely loop with friends and on the last day it was so wet and cold every pub we passed we had a double brandy in car park until we were singing our way across the moors!

Me and Fire used to go out all day with no mobile phone, not tell anyone where I was going, and I used to get so horribly lost that I'd have to give fire the reins and rely on him to take me home.
Back in the days before hats my Dad used to exercise my uncles pony called Rustler who was a hellian. He told me he'd go out for a ride then wake up a few hours after being chucked& knocked out and have to walk home!
