This is madness surely........!!! Why, all of a sudden are horses getting stolen every which way you turn??? I am not suggesting you or anyone else is scaremongering Luc but the whole thing makes very little sense........ I have been a member of another forum since September and the only mention of stolen horses has been recently, the white car with East European occupants case. So why are there so many now???

maybe because of the big thing with these eastern Europeans more people are actually talking out when their horses go missing! This can only be a good thing because the more it is talked about the more people will up their security and keep an eye out for suspicious people. Obviously not a good thing for the poor people whose horses have been taken, hope they all get them back safely

It is shocking.. This theft was reported on the HERFORDSHIRE EQUESTRIAN WEBSITE. There has also been 3 horses taken locally in Gorsley. This was reported in the local paper with a police spokesman telling horse owners to be extra vigilant. Def not scaremongering when the police are telling everyone to watch out.

if you are having a dig at me at least come out and say it.
my message regarding scaremongering refered to specific incidents which were proven to be false and totally without foundation.
at no point did I ever infer that all stolen horse reports should be dismissed as scaremongering.
leave it there.

I think you may be right Becca- more people are talking about it so we are getting to hear aabout more. Im not sure there is more of it going on just we are aware of it now- thats a good thing!
Lucinda -I think your apology to Maxie was needed as it really did seem as though you were having a dig- have a karma yourself for being big enough to apologise and on a public forum as well!
Lets keep the sightings/rumours and reports coming in so even if they are false people remain vigilant- I hope no ones horse is unsafe tonight! brig

i think the best way to do this is to be very vigilant and if you do see something report it to the police, Horsewatch and post it on here. there will be a lot of hearsay but just keep in mind the vehicle descriptions and keep an eye out. we have very special expensive animals and there is always someone that will be out to steal something

PLEASE READ..
If you don't want to put suspected sittings/thefts on here in my area (HEREFORDSHIRE/WORCESTERSHIRE), and I fully understand if you have been put off from doing this. Please PM me with any info... I will gratefully receive it and pass it on to my local equestrian website.
Thanks Luc

Savkins, that word vigilant is an excellent one but I can't help visualizing Professor Mooney with one eye madly twirling whenever I see it or hear it.
I'm sorry you all have to worry about your horses being stolen. Like everything else in life it doesn't make sense. Anything worth stealing is high end and would be easily recognized and yet at the other end of the spectrum there are horses whose monetary value is so little people are almost giving them away. So why risk prison by stealing.
I guess that makes as much sense as shooting and killing a store clerk for $50.00.
Anyway I'll keep you all in my thoughts and pray for the protection of your four legged friends.

Thanks Luc I dont think anyone would feel put off from posting messages here about sightings/rumours or thefts. As horse owners/lovers we are all in this together so lets remain at one with this issue and keep the information coming in. Lucinda if you would like to take the responsibility for passing on any information that comes to light on this forum that may be useful to any other organisation or forum etc then that would be really great and extremely helpful. Let me know, that way we wont be duplicating anything. It may be helpful if you made contact with your local police horsewatch co-ordinator- that way they can have any information we get and also provide us with some. Brig

Hi Brig
I have only just found this thread again as it had been moved. I would love to pass on any info the the authorities. I already have made contact with Horse Watch as one of my little Shetlands had her mane cut off early last year so we are all very vigilant and very good at sharing info with each other in Herefordshire via the Equestrian website and this has proved to be very effective. Just let me know what I can do to help.
Luc x

There have been thefts down in cornwall and devon too - when Royal Cornwall was on, lots of the horses left at home went missing so that makes it pretty planned - knowing no-one woudl be at home.. My friend saw two 'dodgy' looking chaps in camper near her field and when she walked past she saw it was a converted horse box inside - you would not have know from the outside, and then they drove off. Luckily my two are kept (and will be kept when they move) on a site where people live (YO in new case). My friend is worried as her horse is a bigish name in showing down here and her fireld is by the road with no houses nearby... one morning her mare was in a right state, and had pulled both her front shoes off in the night, and had been sweating - she wondered whether it was an attempt to take her (she would have most likely reared up at them coz shes a heller!). Its easy to get paranoid about these things but its also so possible.
