After almost a year and half I'm actually taking Chief to his first show since his accident. Yeah I can't wait, we're off showing at Beaver Hall, Leek on 5th May. Though I'm bound to start getting paranoid and have evil dreams that he's going to go lame again before then Will take camera along and if all goes well will post piccies on here.

Beginning of last year after we had that heat wave that baked all the ground rock hard, he came in from the field lame on his front nearside leg. After loads of tests (nerve blocking, etc) he was diagnosed with a tear to his deep digital flexor tendon My vet said because he'd torn it in his hoof capsule there was a strong chance it may not heal fully. But after 6 months of box rest and egg bar shoes (which cost me a fortune!) and going out for little 10 min works twice a day and limited turnout gradully building up to full turnout, around October my vet gave me the go ahead to start riding him. My vet bills were horrendous and at the time I was insured with E&L (say no more then ). The vet was coming out every 4 weeks! Anyhow beginning of this year my vet told me to bring him back into full-time work to see how the leg went being as though he was showing good signs with his recovery. He's now a lot fitter but I have to watch my schooling because if I do too much circle work he starts to get a bit short in front. I told my vet who came out to assess him (again) and he said it was probably scar tissue. I've never been so paranoid about it all as I love him so much I just want him to get better. I wasn't going to bother showing him this year but my vet told me to go for it at venues which ran on a surface and being as though I'm off into hospital end of July and will be out of the saddle for 3 mths following, I thought it would be nice to go to a couple and see how he goes. Phew hope that makes sense

Thanks guys, my daughter and friend are coming along armed with camera and video camera so let's hope the weather holds out and Chief's a good boy. Really excited but at the same time feeling a bit worried but I know deep down it'll be alright

We did it folks. It rained in the morning and when we got there (we were a bit late) I only had 10 mins to my class but thankfully it was in-hand so my daughter and friend sorted Chief out whilst I tried to get myself ready. OMG I was so nervous but he was a good boy and we came 6th. Next was the ridden class. I'd decided not to work him in with his boots as I knew I would then be paranoid taking them off to go into the class. The warm-up was on a surface so I just took my time working him in gently. Bit of a disaster in the class as my legs just went like jelly and I rode like a real muppet which resulted with him falling on his forehand and tripping up during a change of rein . But he was a good boy and I was so proud but alas no placing in this class. I'm determined to go to a couple more before my op of which my daughter then takes over the ride. I took loads of piccies but not had chance to download yet (OH took camera off with him on stag weekend!) but when I do I'll post them straightaway ;D
