I have basically got too much stuff, but we are going to try and tidy up the tack room tomorrow. Any tips on rationalising my mess? I know I should e-bay, but that ain't happening so, storage solutions folks please???

Garage at home? Garden shed? Or if all else fails, saddle and bridle on the back of the dining room chairs?? Can you tell I'm a bit of a hoarder?

Can you designate a room? My brother converted the attic into a bedroom on one side and a tack room on the other as well as the tack room under the stairs. We have far too much tack for the animals we have but you never know when it might come in handy.

I converted the garage into my tack room. The OH put saddle racks etc on the walls, plus loads of shelves, under which I screwed millions of hooks. These hold rugs (all neatly showed in their bags, yes, I am very anal!), headcollars etc
I went to the dump and retrieved two old seventies free-standing cupboards which hold the phamacie, hoofs oils etc in one, and joddies, soft things in t'other. All the saddleclothes (19 at last count) are clean and over trestles while on the floor are crates holding boots etc.
If you can't commandeer a garage, can you claim a shed?

Thanks for all suggestions. Just needed a really good sort out and have made quite a bit of room. Still can't find two of my headcollars and a lunge line since the move...

I have two garden storage boxes like these www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7204500.htm - one for outdoor rugs not in use, the other for stable rugs, numnahs and towells (and anything else soft and clean, bandages etc) One lives in my stable, the other in the tackroom. My grooming boxes are then stored on top I then have a filing cabinet in the tackroom for all my bits and bobs - hat, chaps, old tack no longer used, first aid kit etc. anything that needs to be mouseproof I am lucky on that I can leave things in my stable and Eddie will rarely touch it - so rugs in use are hung over a string at the back of the stable and over wall. Grooming kit (in box with lid) on rug box. I even keep my long boots in with her!! I still have far too much stuff though and always have stuff lying about. Then every couple of months have a mass tidy up again!!

I have big tidying days when I clean everything and put it away but then slowly over a couple of months it becomes a mess again. I find the duvet storage bags from Ikea or ebay are great for rugs. I always like to have a cupboard or chest for clippers and medicines, my current one is from the MIL but charity shops always have old cupboards/drawers. I have a biggish tack room now but when I was in livery the chest went in the stable with the horse- it was great as I could put my hat and boots and his day to day boots in etc.
