a supplement for runny bums please Murphy's not mine i must add the haylage is playing havoc with him and he pretty much has a runny bum most of the time, just as it settles i open a new bale and it's back again so i was wondering if theres anything i could feed to help him, going to fetch some feed this week but as i'm on hols it will be locally not Argo (or i'd have asked their advice). It's a big place but attached to a large working farm who breed cattle etc so i don't think equines are their speciality.

Haffy I have used this stuff for Harvey www.protexin.com/products/gut-balancer/5. Twice he's had a bit of an upset tummy (straw seemed to be his trigger!) and this cleared it within a couple of days both times. NAF also do a Haylage balancer - not used it but could be worth trying

Naf pink powder worked for us in this situation but think Scatty's remedy probably better. PP is mainly expensive chalk I have heard!

Will do and my sympathies as it's gross.
Thanks guys, will have a see wht they've got and if nothing suggested will order protexin online. T had suggested Pink powder the other day too Sol but it seems to get slated online. Whilst googling it earlier i also came across bananas...funnily enough my two have eaten loads this weekend and it just so happens Murph's tummy has settled down and no runny bum today and yesterday he was pretty much okay too. Weird coincidence? It is nearly time to start a new bale...

Bloody awful when you don't know and get caught in the butt explosion, my clothes have been washed twice and still smell and tbh no amount of showers has got the mucky feeling off me.
Might have to try bananas, I'll hardly have to force feed them to her.
Im talking to the vet tomorrow about stomach ulcers as she seems to have many of the traits.

poor savs, hope she hasn't. Be interested in what the vets recommends for the tummy meanwhile.

Brewers yeast or yea sacc are the things I would try first and will be much cheaper than the pre made supplements like the protexin and pink powder. Dylan can sometimes get 'sticky legs' as I call it but so far so good with the brewers yeast.
BD whats the issue you are having with your girl and what's she currently fed on? Sorry if it seems a random question, but I'm sure I've seen you mention about problems with colic before?

She's always been colic prone ever since we bought her, sometimes its tummy aches which we deal with by walking her and keeping her warm and sometimes its full blown colic where the vet is called and I stay with her overnight in case of relapses. She's out 24/7/365, she's fed hay, molichop, D&H build up mix with some apple and carrot chucked in all watered down. She's gets her tummy aches when we change a hay bale or our supplier and when we start feeding again after the summer - we do it gradually literally grams at a time and we start feeding in August so she can have a full feed October time. She has full blown colic episodes when her routine is changed, the last was this time last year when we started heading down later to feed - again gradually a few minutes at a time so if we were normally there at 3 we would feed at 5 past so add a few minutes on each time until we are feeding at 4 and so on. Last year I was away at uni and came back jan - april for placement in the local hospital and was occasionally seeing her and treating her late at night which is what we attributed to her colic then so we stick strictly to her feed times now. She has a sensitive tummy so we are careful what we feed, when we feed and how we feed (always next to the buddy who doesn't steal her tea and Savs won't steal the buddies tea and her bucket is washed out properly) She's a guzzler so she has a larger bucket with more carrot in to stop her eating so quickly. My main thinking re ulcers is the change in her behaviour, she's always bucked but it was always "Isn't life fantastic" etc usually when we were playing cowboys and indians and I really let her rip but she would always try and make sure I didn't fall but the bucking now is "Geroff" and making sure I fall and biting me on the way down or when I'm on the floor - She has had a back check, teeth, saddle check - saddle changed to an ancient one of my mums that fits beautifully and worked for a few sessions, everything I could think of really and she's as fit as a butchers dog so really the only thing I can think is an internal problem and I read somewhere that feeding them garlic can cause bottom explosions if they have ulcers which Savs was doing (caught in a cross fire, no amount of showers will help) and as soon as I stopped giving her it she was back to normal. Having had her for 13 years I know my pony as well as anyone can and her behaviour has changed so dramatically when ridden it is shocking, she's an amiable animal and would jump the moon if I asked her to but right now I feel like I'm sitting on a time bomb waiting for the explosion thats gonna land me in hospital. On the ground she is the sweetest, kindest pony I've ever had and her behaviour has not changed at all in that respect. I am speaking to my vet tomorrow with regards to what she thinks as an equine specialist but any ideas are welcome. Anyone who reads all that can have a speacial hot chocolate and a homemade raspberry and white chocolate muffin

Out of interest what are you feeding him? We put Savvys bottom problem down in part to a little too much rich food in one go, our hay was beautiful and she was put onto food early but we did add garlic and D&H mix to her feed which is what I think was the final straw with her.

Hi been using a vit/min suppliment with Nobes highly recommended by my much trusted suppliers for such a problem and its worked really well. High level of pro/pre biotics and 1 £16 tub lasted 2-3 months with a 16h. Will find out what it is as I just picked it off the shelf. I am very pleased though on tub 2.
