Took Brave to dressage today and it was not one of our better days, despite thinking I had lots of time I seemed to end up in a guddle at the end with a massive rush to get on and warmed up, and didnt help that they were running ahead of schedule and 'encouraging' everyone to move up a time slot or two... I did take some extra time as they were calling my number nearly 15 minutes early!
Anyway the prelim was going really well until pilot error struck - even when learning the test there was one point which I either went into canter or walk and I picked the wrong one... oops anyway we finished in 5th place out of 20 or so riders.
Warmed up well for the novice and was feeling good, but as we walked through the carpark someone was reversing their trailer and ended up really close to Brave just as a horse kicked off in the trailer and another was being loaded, and a gust of wind (it was very windy) hit and Brave just got wound up and nearly climbed into someone else's trailer as it all happened at once.
Anyway got him calmed down and into the test started really well but he was really tense and had lost all his suppleness and most of his brakes. Had to canter on the left rein first and whilst he hasnt done this for ages he was late into the transition and then went on the wrong lead, and despite 3 attempts I couldnt get him on the correct leg, until the 4th canter movement... then he was late into the downward transition and would not relax into the walk.
