I was just wondering what everyones hacking gripes are... Mine are - untrained loose dogs Farmers who think its ok to run 20 tractors a day up and down bridlepaths and churn them into mud pits. Farmers who think its ok to plough up half the right of way track! Gas guns...luckily both my boys are great with them but there has been two on the neighbouring field for the last two months going off every 20mins. and today....There was a loose pig in the wood luckily I spotted it a long way off (came from the same place as the untrained loose dogs!) Fire would have been really unimpressed if it had jumped out at him. I think I am rapidly givin up being a happy hacker...I miss jumping lessons and competing.

Boy racers who think its funny to rev their engines and drive at national speed limit as they go past. It's fine on Savs I could ride her down the motorway in rush hour (I never would but I could) but on my friends horse its a nightmare as he backs into the traffic and 18.3hh of him is not easy to get moving again GRRR.
Dogs are irritating but copable most sod off if you shout loud enough.
The worst is the windturbine, for some reason they are all terrified of it and going past sideways whilst staring at it is now the norm.

^^ all of the above ^^ I absolutely hate that the nearby bridle path is constantly being used by tractors/mopeds/quad bikes and loose dogs Drivers who follow behind very slowly, it upsets the horse more when they crawl behind for ages until you can pull to a lay by than if they just drive pass!

Chinese lanterns!!! Hate the blummin' things. Last year when I was working on the eventing yard one of the horses got caught up in one and cut his leg open and now has a massive scar (luckily it was one of the retired eventers, not the £27,000 one! Not that that makes it better, but still).
With Faith, traffic in general was an issue, particularly buses with hissy brakes! - she liked to jump out in front of those and scare me foul smelling poopyless!!! Nowadays there's not much in our lovely countryside that's 'bad', although idiots on mopeds irritate me...Faith just wants to play (she'd have a go on a bike if she could!), but for the other horses they're not good.

Cyclists - around here they travel in packs, take over the entire road, dont where hi-vis and generally creep up on the horses, and if you meet them when you are driving they stay in their little pack as you follow them up the road and refuse to ride single file. If we behaved like that on a horse we would really get a bad reputation.
That and when they shift the wrapped bales, Brave used to be fine with tractors and trailers but we have had to pass a few with flapping plastic and now he starts dancing as soon as he sees one with bales on.
Oh and finally anything that wasn't there yesterday!

I'm very lucky in that my hacking is all off road, and a large percentage of it mainly deserted. however...
Definatly with you on the cyclists Fi, on the whole (few exceptions it has to be said) they are so flipping rude!
The tractors thing i get but as mine live on a farm i can't really complain, although when it snows and they compact it i'll probably have a gripe as i can't get safely out of my field!
And finally i just wish they'd resurface one of the paths across the common (the actual bridleway) as it resembles mini lakes in several areas most of the year and is almost inpassable, esp as Harry is not keen on getting his feet wet, which means i use the footpath that goes the other route across instead. I think the issue is ownership, it's a public bridleway but technically the area belongs to the estate and leased to mod.

It's the unknown that's always been the worst thing for us. Like parked cars or spooky farm yards, pheasants! Pete is funny sometimes nothing bothers him other days everything does!

I think what is driving me increasingly nuts are the 'offcomers' who move here and then fence their land. There's a Belgian locally - who visits his expensive pile only occasionally - who has fenced his vineyards and cut off two pathways that have been in use forever.
