Paco was an A*R*S*E yesterday
He was a total pain on the PTV and for once, despite my tendency to blame myself for everything, this time I am quite sure it was all his fault.
Having had a very pleasant POR with the team and Paco's new friends, he seemed reluctant to leave them to do his PTV. So after only the second obstacle he stopped dead and tried to go up - typical Paco strop - but I nipped that in the bud. Then he would only go forward a few steps at a time, there was much snorting and looking at stuff, so I beat him soundly Ony joking peeps, but yes, I had to give him some firm wake-up calls.
The worst was when we had to go through the farmyard, which was a muddy quagmire with farm machines to one side, and he stopped dead and tried very hard to turn and run away. It took ages to threaten/cajole him up to the chapeau de gendarme but then he was fine and despite the hysteria about the muddy puddles the little sh!t went through the big water obstacle without any problem. Equally, he was great over the log and hedge jumps.
In fact, he did all the obstacles without problem (except he touched a bar in the chicane which was probably too much inside leg from me) it was just SO difficult to get him to each one. He even got all bug eyed about going over a hump bridge which was absolutely nothing.
So I got a really bad PTV score (time faults I think as I can't think of anything that we messed up and the jumps were fluid and pretty so there shouldn't have been any style penalties for those, at least). It was pretty embarrassing as I'm supposed to be the TREC 'expert'
Being more positive, he was OK in the COP even though it was a really tricky corridor with two right angle bends and fine in the POR although he did not want to leave his new friends to go off searching for a marker at one point.
He hasn't been this silly for years and I'm disappointed with him, I thought we'd done with this sort of behaviour. Frankly, this morning, I'm really fed up with him. Everyone thinks he is so easy but in fact he can be really tricky and moody and I wish I had a normal horse who just did what I asked. I'm totally fed up with his craven cowardice.
At least he loaded very nicely both out and back so I should be grateful for something I suppose. But I get very annoyed when I see other people's horses just doing everything without fuss, without all the effort that goes into life with Paco. Just think how long - and how much effort - it's taken to teach him to load ....
Sorry peeps, rant over.
