Today my RS held a Halloween Show.
I decided to take my favourite pony - he isnt really a typical riding school pony as he used to do a lot of competing and he gives you such a great feel going over the jumps. Hes about 14.2hh, connemara.
Im still on such a high from riding him, ive been looking forward to it all week! he makes me smile going over the jumps, hes brilliant. ;D
Anyway, they had a handy hunter class which i entered for the craic. We had to trot in and out of orange police cones with pumpkins on the top and then there was a square made out of poles where we had to halt for 10 seconds. Then 2 poles laid out parallel to each other we had to ride through. Then a jump - this was quite spooky as it was right against the wall and there was a barrier made out of jumps on the approach side, so it was like a wee tunnel - there was cobwebs and spiders etc draped over the jumps and then pumpkins under the jump and he took a good look at it! Then we had to stop, dismount and run up stirrups then lead horse whilst walking along a plank. Then we had to mount again - you got an extra point for getting on the off side - i tried this but he kept moving and i couldnt get my leg up high enough to reach the stirrup lol! So i just got on the right side lol! No rosette for this, there was a 1st 2nd and 3rd though. It was timed as well.
He was great in the warm up, so calm which was great as he can get quite fizzy.
I did the 65cms first and he was so much fun in this - apart from taking a big leap over the first fence, he jumped the rest perfectly and cantered round most of it really calmly and listened to me if i brought him back. I had such a big grin on my face after that!
I did the 80cms then as well because the 65cm had gone so well and he was jumping great. Well, i dunno whether it was me or him but he was lit up a bit more for this class - some of them jumps felt like a metre lol!! i really enjoyed this as well and i ended up being drawn out of the hat for first prize!! I got prize money and all - woohoo! ;D
Ive never actually jumped him properly like that before and i havent jumped 80cm maybe since last winter! I had such a good time!!
Anyway, here are a few crappy quality videos off my phone for your entertainment ;D
(he wouldnt stand as a group of horses had just gone up the hill ''without him'')
I think im a bit big for him in all honesty but he seemed to have no problem clearing the jumps with me on his back lol! I wish he was just a wee bit bigger!
