That Sancy has Laminitis. Got a call from the YO on Monday to say she looked uncomfortable in the field so she'd got her in. That night she was very 'shuffly' in walk, quite lame in trot - more on one leg than the other though (but what with her usual problems very hard to pinpooint). So I got her in and gave her some bute. Yesterday slightly better but not much and this morning she looked a lot better, just quite tender. The farrier is coming tonight to have a look. She does have a really nasty crack in her near fore - would that make her lame though? I've taken her off the bute to see if she gets worse. God I hope its not Lami. We've managed to avoid it for 15 years, but what with the grass going a bit crazy this year.... I'll let you know what the farrier says. Could be another pricy vets visit!

It could be down to the crack, its quite hard to guess, but as you say it looks nasty then it could well be that. The farrier will find out tonight, let us know what the verdict is. Good luck!

Well farrier came last night and he's pretty sure she's had a touch of laminitis. There was some bruising in the hoof and the laminae (?) had grown. Thankfully we seem to have caught it in time and she seems to be OK at the moment. I've kept her in and will do until she's lost some more weight then just have to be really careful. I'm so peed off. 15 years and she's never had it. My farrier said the weather is playing havoc with their feet and diets. Re the crack he's trimmed it and filed it out so theres not as much weight bearing on it. Wasn't too worried about it. Poor Doofy Doo.

Looks like she'll be fine then. They are such a worry and I know its wrong, but when they are 15 years old and have never had it before its easy to assume they never will eh?

is there any way you can exercise her? I know it might be difficult with her cracked hoof but maybe if she has regular exercise it might not happen? just a thought

Well she's now looking much much better. Had her in for a week and then gradually turned out a bit more on poor grazing. We have managed to connect the fence to a really powerful battery so hopefully will keep the liitle one in. Baymare when she was in was just giving her a small section of hay 3 times a day. Felt mean but she was also on a straw bed so she picked at that. Aimee unfortunately she's not ridden at all anymore (due to navicular) and can't be walked out as I don;'t have any sane company to go with!! Still lets see how she goes. Fingers crossed...
