Blue likes to carry his head really low when cantering. It's a bit disconcerting, I feel out of control a bit. If you try to keep his head up he is evasive. Today though I gave him his head and he felt like he was thinking about bucking. Thoughts please on why he might be doing this and best way to help him. He is i a bitlees sidepull bridle. He is not really strong or naughty just forward going and very comfortable ;D

Has he ever been schooled in draw reins? That can encourage this as its another evasion to the draw effect, as they cant go anywhere else, so they go lower. It could also be simply that he finds it easier on his back to carry the rider in this way, after all his back muscles will be stronger the rounder his overall outline is. A lot of horses when cantered without saddles and bridles choose to carry their heads quite low.

Could well have been schooled in draw reins. He was bought from a dealer who brings over from Ireland. Sold as a four year old so probably had a crach course in schooling. The lady that has owned him for the last two years only hacks so he is allowed to go in his own way.

Tordi was carrying his head very low today when we were cantering / galloping today and I suspect this was because I put double reins on his pelham. he's been getting very strong when cantering in company recently and i have even been considering riding him the Spanish way with just a curb rein but I just couldn't do it. I also took my running martingale off amd almost got smacked in the gob soooo back to what we were doing lol
