Lol kitcat! She went very well for a first test shame that is the last! She warmed up well but was ignoreing me a little bit in the test and was just not relaxed and was stretching down when needed to. OH has filmed it so will post it up when I upload it. Came 4 out of 6 with a score of 133 out of 230 so 57%

You did well. It's hard to get them to concentrate first time. Well done!

The test looks pretty good rainbow, i like the way its in a field, thats quite cool Dressage really is harder than you would think isnt it, with all the little things that can make a difference. When i did the RS dressage league in jan and feb this year, with 3 different horses, the first time the horse decided he didnt like the white boards, the second time i forgot the bloomin test and the third time, the horse was foot perfect although a little tense and distracted. Its just so hard to get it all to come together but i think thats half the fun of it, is the challenge of perfecting it! And theres great achievement when the horse is going well i think. Yous both look very smart in the vid too You will have to look about and see if theres any more dressage comps on - that could be something to futter about with over the winter..

Yeah your right flea. I was so busy with remebering the test I wasn't concenrating too much on what she was doing. When at home I was getting her to become round. I had a mini crisis before I went in and briefly, while watching the person before me, forgot the test! But it was all good. The judge said on the sheet "A cracking cob - much to like about her way of going but a little strong and against the hand at times. Quietly ridden. Well done."
Got all 6's by 1 7 and couple of 5's.

yeah i noticed she was trying and coming round at times! well done, thats positive. the judges comment sounds good - i like the way they like rosie as a cob, just shows its for every type of horse a good start though, think its just a matter of perseverance, maybe the more dressage comps you do the better she will get at concentrating etc?

I thought that was an excellent first attempt in less than perfect conditions. The thing that stands out to me is her consistency in her paces, she has an even tempo which helps with the marks. The down side is her reluctance to accept the contact and the lack of stretching. Also watch your diagonals, sorry but I'm obsessive despite some faux pas' of my own. There's lots to like and lots to work on, don't give up just strive for better next time xx

I'm usually do well with diagonals but was concentrating so much on the test that I forgot about everythin else. When I do concentrate on rose whn o was practising at home she went very well.
Thank you so much for the kind comments they mean a lot =)

Well what a laugh Ive had, for some reason my little notebook wouldnt accept the link and by the time Id got something on it your Rosie had turned into a bay and the lady was all over the place. So I put it away before commenting and thank goodness I did otherwise you would have thought Id gone bonkers! anyhow sanity and laptop now in use and I see that Rosie is indeed a coloured cob and you are not in danger of been sprung out of the saddle. Cant add much to Zara's comments actually. I think you are tense because you are trying and it shows in the stiffness of your hands which makes them dependant on your seat and visa versa, that makes her resist your hand hence the comments. I think you need to learn to oompah! That way your hands appear more independent and it looks nicer for the test. If you concentrate on that you will get a nicer rhythm in your rise and Rosie will be more confident in your contact. This is what you do
off the horse hold a stick rein width apart in your hands at a level you would hold the reins and stand with your legs about 12 inches apart with your knees half bent. Then as you straighten your knees lower your hands, then raise your hands as you bend your knees again. Its the oompah dance in the Mary Poppins film. Keep repeating this until you get the rhythm in your brain. At first you will want to raise your hands as you straighten your knees but concentrate and learn it so your body does it automatically. then next time you trot work on this- its exactly the same feeling and it will stop the dreaded 'rising on the hands' comment and help with all the above. At first you need to exaggerate it but eventually you will learn to use it subtly to great effect.
I think it was a very good test and you should soon be in the rosettes, she moves really well.

Fantastic tip Brig; I'm going to try that!

Thanks for that brig. I will try that. Its interesting that you noticed because I never realised that i was doing that with my hands. Mind I have never really seen my self ride properly before so it was good for me in that respect too. I was nervous because for 1 that was our first test but mainly because I need to stop thinking that she is running off with me but actually having a very good rhythm that is just faster than I am used to with her. Its just annoying now that its the last show I can get too and not having any transport to get anywhere! i got the bug for XC and I couldnt do it again as no transport and same again for dressage! ahwell just need to carry on with lessons and get good for the summer
