Any ideas what it might be?!
Faith seems to be a bit swollen around her teats/udder at the minute, but only on the one udder...the other one seems completely normal!
I can't feel any heat and she doesn't seem to be in any pain with it (I gave it a good old squeeze!). Can't find a scab or 'head' to the lump (so probably not a bite or abcess). Doesn't feel like it's full of fluid or anything either. The only way I can describe it is that it kind of feels like someone's got their finger laid horizontally along her belly line inside her udder, kind of like a hard-ish sausage... It 'gives' a little bit when you squeeze it (like if you squeezed the lowest part of your finger - you know, the bit where it joins the rest of your hand ) but you can definitely feel something hard underneath.
Tempted to phone the vet, but as I've already had him out once in the past few weeks I'd like to try to figure it out without him needing to come out if possible as I could do with saving my pennies right now. Might give him a ring if you guys don't have any ideas, but thought I'd ask you clever peeps first!
Via google, other forums have said it could be a whole bunch of things, ranging from psuedo pregnancy, oestrogen overload from eating too much soy (it's in clover that can be found in hay, apparently), fly bites, allergies, seasonal hormonal imbalances, indications of Insulin Resistance or an early sign of Cushings. Oh and then there's the almost obvious: a tumour of some sort. Currently I'm trying to convince my brain it's probably just nothing but you know what happens once you start googling symptoms!!!
Any help or ideas very much appreciated .
* Just decided that I'm going to ring the vet in a bit anyway...more to put my mind at rest than anything really.
