I've been off work all week and went for a great little lesson at a local yard. As no space for private lesson, I joined in with another lady who was at a similar stage to myself.
I rode a 15.2hh dark bay cob called Crunchie. Just knew his job and got on with it.
I was cantering and jumping a few little cross poles and have been on cloud 9 ever since ;D ;D.
Hoping to get back this week too.

Sol - Murphy was continuing to dip at the rear end and I felt unsafe. He hasn't kept weight on since his bout of colic and was also very laboured in his walk - it was hard work to get him to do any exercise and I felt really guilty for even asking it of him tbh. I discussed it with my farrier (who thinks he is early 20's) and he suggested taking off the shoes to rest his feet as he's not being ridden now anyway. I have a hoof hardener to apply every day, so hopefully he won't go lame etc: I just have to come to terms that he is definitely in retirement. Hence the wee lessons to raise my spirits

That sounds like just what you needed DB. Sad news about Murphy. But he has landed on his feet with you. Def agree to taking his shoes off - he should be fine just mooching around the field - and less expense = more lessons

Nice to hear your back in saddle Db, even if it's not with Murphy. Does this mean your health issues are now resolved then or are you doing it regardless.

Haffy I've been keepin a lot better thanks. Although I still have the odd bad day, mostly I'm managing good.
Yeah Ceej I'd love another horse but at present I have no space. Just need to get another field (proving mission impossible), find a wonderful retirement home, or just continue with lessons as an when. There's nothing like having your own horse though and I'm now addicted to horse sale web sites!

Glad you had a good lesson and are feeling better health wise, as for Murphy he makes a very handsome lawn mower!

Missed this thread DB, but glad to hear about your lesson- what a tonic! Sad about Murphy but he did land on his feet didnt he, just think where he would be right now without you! At least he gets a lovely retirement as he sounds a great chap!
