Hi everyone!
Yeah, Im back! holiday was great! absolutely enjoyed it! Have some pics will post when I get round to it.
So yeah,
"welcome home, oh and Fern is lame"
God! I was fuming at first! I leave for 2 weeks and I come back to this! my first thoughts was OH's mum and sister has run her into the ground. I didn't want to give them her saddle, Fern had been going beautifully before we went so I was keen on her having 2 weeks off as well, but that weren't happening. Oh and to top it all I only found out today from the livery girl that she had given the other livery girls DAD a lesson on her! cheek! earning money out of my horse by sticking complete novice bloke on her for a bit of money!! %&*$&%".... But before I get carried away, it werent from them riding her. its just me getting all funny, protective, defensive, and so on! so I'll stop now
so anyway! Turns out she had jumped the only bit of wire fence in the whole field, got caught and struggled etc etc! (no one saw this btw, this is just assumed as the fence had been smashed through, but it is the most likely theory)
So, Initial panic over we went to see her saturday morning (she was still in field, happened Thursday) and she weren't lame! I led her out of the field and to the stable and she looked no different from normal, except this huge lump coming from her hind cannon/splint bone! I trotted her up in the school and along the drive and there was no sign of lameness (yay)(his mum hadn't had her out of field to check) just the lump which apparently had gotten a lot bigger since thursday (well duh).
So had a closer inspection. and yep lots of little knicks and cuts from the knee down on all 4 legs, backs up the wire fence story. so just hibiscrubed everywhere and put some antiseptic cream on and called vet. Have had her on box rest and bute since saturday. Not much heat. called my aunt over who is quite experienced and she suggested a poulitce over the phone as it sounded like an infection. She came over, looked at it and reckoned a poultice wont do much to it as it it dont look like an infection or a puncture wound.
So we carried on resting her until the vet came out today. She was jabbing the youngsters so she didn't really get much time to check Fern, but she had a good look and a prod about and says she wont say anything till she has it xrayed...so just got off phone and its booked for thursday. so nervous hopefully it will be good news as Fern is going mad in the stable.
I actually partly regret going on holiday now. I know these things happen all the time but I just feel so guilty. If me and OH was here we would never have put the blinking colt in the next blinking field seperated by wire!!
hummmph
So anyway! Have no idea what it could be. Any ideas? will hopefully know by the xray though. There is no obvious pain, no lameness, just a big hard lump (egg size). lots of people have given me their opinions, splints, puncture, fracture, splinter, bruising, ligaments, infection....So confusing!
So wish us luck for Thursday!!
