I had to use smart worming as part of my livery contract and have to say I was very disappointed with it, however I know people who think its marvellous and I actually love the theory but I guess its down to whoever does the interpretation of the results. I never didnt have to worm despite my horse always being on well managed pasture, plus I was asked for worm counts when the results were debatable ie too late in the year when encysted worms cant be analysed, also people dont seem to realise you still have to worm for tape worm at the correct dosage and at the correct time of year, the dosage of which (product dependent) will kill all stages of redworm so a count is superfluous, but they still request one to check for resistance, but the known problem resistance is to usual redworm only medication. So sorry for that Rainbow but to answer your question, I have no idea and Smart worming probably dont either!!

i do independent counts via westgate labs. This is the plan they suggest/recommend but i don't count if i'm going to chemical worm as can't see the point. I just count a couple of times a year if i'm honest and use chemical wormers for tapeworm about now and in December and i periodically use verm x throughout the rest of the year. I had a count due remimder email last week so i guess you have a similiar plan to follow.
A sample targeted worming programme - for healthy horses, kept at low risk from worms -
December
Worm for encysted redworm e.g. with Equest or Panacur Equine Guard (if no resistance present). Equest also treats bots. Equest Pramox also treats tapeworm
March
Worm count all horses. Worm any with a count of 200 + epg. No need to worm any with low or clear counts.
June
Worm count as above
September
Worm count as above Worm for tapeworm if not done already e.g. with Equitape or double pyrantel
December
Worm as for last December
March
Begin worm counts again

Thanks for that. Its so tricky knowing when to do counts and when to exactly worm!
