Yesterday was the last SJ of the season (the last last!) and it was already far too hot in the afternoon. The Teenager took another first and a second and was very pleased with that but more that she thought she rode quietly and to the mantra: take the horse to the jump in the best way possible, then let it do its job.
Saw quite a bit of riding where they obviously didn't sign up to that. One girl made me so mad I had to stop myself from going up to her and giving her a good earful. She was disgusting. Her ponies were obviously talented but she made them hysterical, then yanked them massively in their over-bitted mouths to stop them. In between she was thwacking them with her crop all the time - she was thumping on one pony's neck just as it came in to a jump and guess what? It ran out, away from the stick! She was eliminated for refusals in all three of her classes. What a surprise.
The Boy Wonder also rode atrociously and then threw a massive strop that the teenager beat him (she went clear, he got two bars down over a 1m10 course) and sulked for the rest of the day. He was also guilty of the smack in the chops gallop to standstill routine. Hate that. HATE it.
But a good way for the teenager to finish the season. She even thanked me and the OH prettily for paying all the fees for the year.
I was less pleased with the mother of the Boy Wonder who mocked me when I said I had earned the bottle of wine the teenager won, saying she was the one who done all the work. I pointed out, quite sniffily, that I was the one who'd driven my trailer all over Provence and stood at the sidelines in driving rain and scorching sun, getting up at 4.30 am and giving up many of my Sundays over the year ....... grrrr
