We are having a few problems feeding Bailey. He's not the best eater and he hates all dog food - to be fair to him he tries it once but he won't eat it again. So far we have got him to eat Winalot Jelly - Gravy gives him the runs. He likes "human food" - meat, veg - obvs we're not giving him spag bol or tracle tart and custard but casseroley type things. We think it stems from his mum dying at birth therefore he never really saw dog food until he came here and as we are his pack he sees us eating certain things and wants to eat what we're eating - as the alphas we eat first and then he has his dinner. He eats Vitalin dog food but we think thats because its like cereal. He will eat Meat - anything apart from lamb - yes he's unusual Veg - he loves Broccoli and cauliflower Pasta and rice Soya milk - he usually has weetabix with milk but we heard this was better for him. Is there anything else we could give him? Any ideas? Being a weird cross there isnt much info on what they eat but with him being half lab we wrongly thought he would eat anything - must be the husky in him . Thanks

Goats milk is supposed to very very good, we also give the dogs yoghurt pots to lick out - they love it.
Be careful with casserole type things as onions and potatoes are not good for dogs
Zara has always been a picky eater but she has settled onto Beta dog food with a bit of Webbox chub (you can get it in tesco) dont ask me whats in it to looks and smells horrid, I am sure its ground up bits of animal....

Nature diet usually suits all but the mega fussy eaters.

Should have said its not real casserole its a doggy recipe - meat and veg and stock and not much else. Will look into the nature diet might be an idea for him, he seems to get bored easily with foods though beef is always a favourite!!

My terrier can be 'terrierbly' (get it?) fussy but usually find cracking an egg on his food gets him eating. Also great for aged cats but dont feed the white to cats as they cant digest it apparently. I seprate mine then add the white to my breakfast omelet, that way she gets what she wants and I get a healthier breakfast ........until I add the cheese!!!

Fletcher used to be terrible - he wouldnt eat anything except raw meat! - the one thing we found he will always eat is fish - so now he has his dry food mixed with a tin of sardines - never fails

I dunno whether you can get it in the Uk but if so, the bags of pre-cooked pasta or puffed rice are good for fussy eaters - even my boxer slurps them down.

They all go like that Flea, they cant put on muscle or weight anymore so go terribly scrawny. Just feed little and often, I use the pouches but she only has a sthingyful at a time and I have to change the brand constantly.

I know a beautiful collie and her owners feed her a diet of rice, raw veg and meat. She was 12 but I thought she was about 3!

Thats the best diet Firen - thats what fletcher used to have. He still gets rice once a weeka nd raw mince (careful with raw pork!) but its much more natural.
Some dogs are allergic to eggs (including mine - he goes all lumpy) so monitor that!

Bailey loves his eggs scrambled never tried them raw though. We tried him with raw but he's quite fussy about textures and raw meat is one of the things he doesn't like - he also doesn't like it when his toys get wet or covered in sand - the beach is a nightmare with him. Rac when you say puffed rice do you mean things like rice crispies?? www.ricekrispies.com/en_US/default.html#/en_US/products/rice-krispies-cerealHe does adore pasta - just cooked and cooled, he tried brown rice but didn't like it. He does like fruit and veg especially carrots at the minute - he is quite faddy and gets bored easily, though he never gets bored of beef stock ice cubes. He does eat fish on occasion but I don't think he's greatly impressed - he has alaskan pollock or occasionally tuna, might try the sardines. Thanks guys will be trying some of these ideas and see how they go.

brig thats the same with ours! we actually feed her flipping royal canin aging - its wee hard nuggets, she seems to eat them better than regular cat food - sometimes we would get her pouches or tins and she would eat up to half a pouch at a time - if you weigh out about 45/50g of the dry food which apparently they are supposed to eat in a day, she would take a couple of days to eat it. but we also find we have to keep changing the brand as well. we feed her whenever she looks for food, always have done and let her eat as much as she wants. but shes never been a fatty anyway, shes made it very easy for us lol! we have 2 other cats and they would eat you out of house and home! awk well sure as long as shes happy enough, she will be grand.

He loves the egg cracked on his Vitalin for breakfast and he loves his yoghurt. We alternate between this and weetabix with soya or goats milk on a morning and he is literally wolfing things down - he even brought his bowl to me for extra this morning and he's looking a lot healthier.
