Hi all As promised to Suzii and Ronansmum- here is the pressure point which helps a handler make the horse go backwards. As with anything ask first then tell! Your fingers should be stiff and the pressure continous and not evil- however if the horse still resists use the blunt end of a stick or handle of a riding whip so that you dont break your fingers! I thought everyone knew this but then realised quite a few people didnt (silent prayer of thanks to my mentor!) I use this for general stable manners- its second nature now and I never need much pressure- just a touch and the horse moves back- use voice commands as well, for the never failed (as long as you are patient) Monty Roberts method of loading difficult horses (see Ronansmums thread) and also teaching horses from the ground rein back. It was jolly difficult to photo hence the slight blur as everytime I put my hand there the horse moved back!!!! ;D As ever good luck !

Cant wait to give this a go. Of course D steps back wonderfuly when I take his food into the stable and he doesnt attempt to barge out at all but when it comes to me walking in carrying a saddle its like he's rooted to the spot in the door way. Do you think hes trying to tell me something?

Thanks brig... I can't wait to give it a go as well Wraggel. ;D I don't usually have a problem making Ronan move about the box etc, but this is going to be very useful when he thinks he is going to ar*e about at the foot of the ramp...hehehehee. ;D ;D ;D He is in for such a surprise!.....when his mum takes control..........

I did that with P as a yearling and now she goes back on the word back without any pressure at all!! My YO taught me that, all her horses do it as well.

I forgot until I had put his fly rug on and then of course I couldn't find the spot. But today is another day and I will try it this afternoon if I haven't melted by then. We aren't used to this heat up here!!!

It works , it works , it really really really works. Tra la la la la la la, easy peasey first time second time and every time tonight. God how simple. Thanks brig for the tip. Of course when I shreiked in delight and showed some one opposite to me in the yard she knew ALL about this pressure tactic. Personally Ive never felt driven to poking d in the chest before now so hadnt discovered it for myself. Thanx again.XX

Yes, yes, yes it does work ;D- I tried it yesterday and was very pleased when Ronan just stepped straight back. No problem at all.
Can't say he is bargy but the fact that I can get him toi back up will be very heloful wiht the loading thing.
Many thanks brig.....totally great big help that was!! ;D ;D

it even works with Dexter who finds going backwards hugely difficult (since he doesn't know where his back feet are anyway)
