been put into wrong class for the dressage comp on Sunday and there is no space to move me... so now I am riding my first ever Novice test... (once I have worked out how to download the test sheet) Oh Help!!! One of my goals for the year was to ride a novice test and not come last, so I am doing the first part...! and we will see about the second

Ha ha!! Oh dear!!! best way to move up I guess!! dont worry about being last - set the percentage you would like to get rather than where placed!

He will do great, they are looking at different things for prelim, a novice test should suit Brave so you will do really well.

came second in the unaffiliated prelim class with a score of 69.7% winner got 70.2% the winner of the afflilated section got 69.5%, so we did really well, it was prelim 13 which is a bit stop start and doesn't really suit me or Brave so he was not as forward or through as I would have likes and that was exactly the comment from the judge...
It was funny though at the end of the test the judge jumped out of the car and stopped me, my first thought was "what have we done wrong" then " is he lame and I've not noticed", but she said "i've got to know is he welsh? - he is lovely" so I knew she liked him.
Had two hours to kill before the novice test so watched a few before warming up, had decided to aim for the trailblazers score of 58% and was chatting to one of the very experience riders who told me that the next judge I was riding for always marks really hard so whatever score I get to bear that in mind and the comments will be quite hard, but fair.
This test was much better suited to us as it is much more flowing, there were two 15m canter loops back to the track (one on each rein) and on both of these Brave got a little unbalanced as it is something we haven't done a lot of. I was also worried about the medium trot as we have only just started this, but we got a really positive comment about this saying good difference in stride shown. Other main comment was he was getting a little overbent, this is something we have been working on as he has a tendency to really tuck his nose in when I am pushing him forward but asking him to maintain a contact. we scored mainly sixes with a couple of 7's for our canter work and finished on a score of 62.08% so very pleased.
I left before the class finished and only 3 other scores were posted one was 67%, then 64% and the third was 62.7%, so whilst it was a step up for me, it seems like we are ready to move up a level as my score is not far off the others.

Well done sounds like you both had a good day! it certainly sounds as if Brave is ready to step up to Noviceon a regular basis. I plan to try Tordi at novice next spring if all continues to go well. If you don't try you'll never know x
