Yay! The teenager did well yesterday despite driving rain! She won the Poney 1 class and has therefore qualified for the championnats in showjumping as well as ODE. She was lucky to learn a lesson yesterday - during the Poney 2 there were quite a few clear rounds so she decided to go fast despite the sodden sand. But the shortcut she took did not work out, Jana could not get a grip to turn tight enough and came up to a jump that she looked like going over in the wrong direction which would, of course, have meant elimination. The teenager hauled her round it but then came at the second to last jump in a right old shambles and even the perfect Jana could not help her out, so got a bar down. So in the next class, the teenager decided to play safe. All the others brought the tricky triple down but the teenager took her time to put Jana at it just right so the little pony just soared over it and was the only clear in a very big class (it's getting near the end of the season so everyone is entering everything to get the points they need to qualify for the championnats). And I realised I'm really going to miss the competitions. Even the 5am starts have been Ok, I really enjoy the atmosphere and I'm still dead chuffed with my lovely truck and trailer. Of course, the teenager would love to go on competing but won't have a horse ....

Well done to the teenager, Jana and of course chief groom, cheer leader and chauffeur!
I take it that the fact the the teenager wont have a horse is that you have decided not to buy Jana then?

Ah yes ... so busy (and I should not be on here now.... ) I forgot to update that. Yes, we have jointly decided that Jana, lovely as she is, is really a tad small for her now. In addition, she really isn't a ODE pony, her dressage just isn't up to it, although she has made great progress this year. But it is working out very well for Jana: there's a little girl at the club who is going to buy her. She is a novice rider (so Jana won't be competing for a while) and while the pony can be strong, the girl will manage because Jana won't be getting excited by competing. Jana will have a 'pre-retirement' life, which is wonderful. She'll live out, which is best for her, but will be on full livery so she'll only be ridden by the little girl, who is really sweet and besotted by Jana, who is in for a life of pampering. A result all round. But it does leave the teenager horseless. She will work Racaille this summer as he has been getting bumptious again and then with any luck she'll be off to the Cité du Cheval at Tarascon to train as an instructor in the autumn. She did really like a big dark grey TB that she rode at Easter for her Galop 6 exams that was at the club on sale. He didn't sell as he is tricky, although he went beautifully for the teenager. But his flashy colouring meant that he carried a price tag of €7000 which I refused And I pointed out that even iron grey horses go white eventually and then she'd have just another white horse like everyone else and the wow factor of his colour - which bumped up the price - would be lost. So we'll wait and see. Frankly, rather than spend £7000 - 10000 (which m'dears I don't have) on a competition horse here I'd rather import a nicely made cheapie from the UK.

Yeah, we're really chuffed for Jana, it's a perfect solution.
Now we have to wait and hope the teenager doesn't muck up her bac otherwise we won't be going to the championnats....

Just catching up with this Rac - great news on both counts. Sounds like Jana is going to a wonderful new home.
