I have been trying to research different types of feed on the internet. I am trying to find one that is low in starch and doesn't contain too many cereals like barley and maize. I have come across one called fibre gold and i was wondering if anyone on here has heard of it and/or uses it? Any suggestions on a feed that I could feed my just broken baby? She is on Baileys No 8, but I think that this might cause her to behave like she's wired!

Personally I steer clear of cereals....Murph whom we have had since a baby has always just had Hi Fi Lite and alfa beet and Harry has the same.
I used bluechip for about a year on my pony sunny and it never made an ounce of difference so haven't bothered since.

I agree with haffy and steer clear of cereals. Some alfalfa chaff and sugar beet and some sliced carrots will be fine as long as there's grass and good quality hay or haylage and maybe an all round mineral supplement for youngstock.. Cereals are for work. He will get everything he needs to grow from the above. and you can start working him light;y on the above and gradually add cereals when he neds more energy. brig

So far Racaille has only had forage food (grass, hay, lucerne, san foin) and carrots. He's been backed and turned away but he'll be coming in to work gently this summer so we'll see what he needs then. Haven't felt the need to give him anything else as he has been growing steadily and well but he is a rustic chap from the mountains so shouldn't need much anyway.

My boy, Murph, will be 4 in 4 days time. He's about 16.1hh, ISH, extremely good doer. He's been backed since March and is currently just bimbling about round the lanes for approx 40 mins 4 times a week. A lot depends on the type of horse you have. Up until about a month ago Murph was getting Top Spec Anti-Lam (so that he's getting all his vits & mins) mixed with a very small amount (= about 3/4 a scoup) of unmolassed sugar beet and lucerne. At night he had about 5 sections of hay. But now that the grass has exploded he's getting Top Spec mixed with 1/4 scoup sugar beet/lucerne, 3 wedges of soaked hay at night and muzzle on during the day! He's managing fine with no cereals and has more than enough energy. I don't intend to ever feed him cereals. He can get all the energy he needs from the various fibre feeds on the market. Just look at how crazy they go on spring grass!
