After last week's poor show, I went back this week with some trepidation, especially as no one else was around so I had booked a lesson with M, one of the instructors who can be a bit frosty.
But this week something seemed to have clicked. Paco loaded very nicely - he'll never be a competition horse who loads himself - and although he stopped on the ramp for a good long think, there was no silly behaviour. I think my attitude helped too, I decided to keep things very cool and be very very patient.
And the lesson was great too! We worked on exercises to help him hold himself rather than let me do all the work ;D so we worked on barres au sol (poles on the ground) in a loop that included a lateral movement, and then in canter spirals. P was nicely behaved and tried very hard, and was dripping sweat at the end (it is very warm here now). M said he had done some very good work and made progress. The left lead canter issue is getting much better now too - although he does definitely prefers to evade if he can I now see that I can be both the problem and the solution.
And then the dear little boy loaded nicely to come home. So a very happy mummy indeed!

That sounds a good lesson. I find bad loading very stressful. It makes a huge difference when it is not an issue. Just had a random thought, I presume your lessons are in French but you talk to Paco in English? So he is a bi lingual horse?

heh heh Duckles, the poor lad must be trilingual by now! He was probably Spanish by birth, then raised in France .. then I bought him ..... But yes, our lessons are in French
