for various reasons and no fault of their own neither H nor L have been able to come up and ride for the last couple of weeks, which means I am back to riding two beasties again!
I am Knackered!
I used to be able to ride 3-4 hours in day and yes I would be tired at the end of it, but now a 1 hour hack on chomps followed by a 25 minute (was going to be longer but I ran out of energy) schooling session with Brave and I am ready for my bed!
Took Chomps into the arena on Friday as he hadn't been ridden for a week and what a monster I had about a dozen bucks in the first 10 minutes as he threw all his teddies out of the pram saying he didn't want to work, so I decided to pop him over some jumps and he was flying over the 80-90 cm course I built until it came to the 85cm skinny, well he stopped in front of the fence - then decided to jump it - he cleared it - somehow! but I ended up on his neck in front of the saddle with my arms wrapped around his chin! at which point he decided to trot circles around the jumps... how I stayed on this I dont know as my nose, buried in his ears, was lower than my backside as he put his head down. When he finally came to halt I managed to lever myself back into the saddle, amazingly despite the unorthodox style of riding I had kept my feet in the stirrups!
However yesterday he was a gem to hack out while Brave decided to prance around the arena like a stallion while I picked up the jumps that had blown over in the wind - but I must be getting heavy for as soon as my bum hit the saddle he decided walking around the arena was the best option, and got his head into work mode. Took him for a gallop around one of the big stubble fields today and he is doing everything in his power to make me trust him a he went at whatever pace asked despite being as fresh as a daisy!
We did go through one big puddle on the road and he had to check it for monsters by pawing the water with an expression of shear glee on his face and soaking himself and me in the process! Anybody else's horse do this?
