Just ordered Faith some and figured I'd find out a bit more about them (they look good, but...)
Anyone got any experience with them? How are they? Easy to fit? Do they rub? Can the horse be turned out in them? etc etc

Sorry no I only use old macs, find them fantastic so wouldn't consider anything else. Think Becca might use them?

I use both. Old Macs in front & Boas behind. The Old Macs G2 seem to suit rounder hooves & the Boas suit more heart shaped hoof. I found that the Old Macs turned on Warrior's hind hooves even though they were the correct size. The Boas don't move on him & they seem to be handling him standing on them when he gets in a tizz. Downside is, I find that they rub a little at the front. The Old Macs fasten in a completely different way & I find them much easier to put on and off. I've never had a problem with them rubbing.
You can turn a horse out in them but they will need a break from them. They get very warm & damp inside if left for too long. Ideal environment for bacteria.
Best online place I've found is The Saddlery Shop. I think they have a try before you buy service. When you try the boot on, pop your horse's foot in a plastic bag if it'll let you & put newspaper down or stand it on something soft e.g. shavings. Most companies won't take the boot back if its marked.

I had to get Boa's as they were the only ones that went up to bernie's size I struggle sometimes to get bernie's on but i think that is because he has quite a lot of flare at the moment which makes his feet like dinner plates! Bernie's rub on the front of the coronet band if he wears them to long but only enough to mess up the hair, never been sore from them. Trying to put them on with the gaiters is even harder! he sounds so funny wearing them too as he is so heavy footed THUD THUD THUD THUD haha.

I've orderd mine from Robinsons - didn't really think to look into best prices, I just wanted them ASAP so she can go outside again!
(she's a pain in the bottom when she's been stabled for more than 24hours - she barges out and refuses to go back in! She is, however, getting turned out in a little mud paddock for the afternoon today though, so that should make her a wee bit happier)
As for the boots, whats the difference in Boas and Old Macs? Is it just a brand difference or is one better than the other?
Oooh, I hope they fit ok and help her feet recover...
(thanks for the help peoples!)

Out of the two, I prefer the Old Macs. They fasten in a different way & are much easier to get on & off. They also have a more aggressive tread than the Boa Boots. Its just that they don't seem to suit Warrior's hind feet.

Karma coming your way brig Precisely! You guys are sooooooo helpful. If I could give you all a karma then I would, but I might have to space them out a bit 'cos I can only do one an hour! Will get one out to each of you though, even if it takes me a while!"

Must agree i would have gone with the old mac's if they went up to odd horse size haha. they do the old mac 2's now, my friend had to get the originals though as the mark2's do come up a different shape spotti if you measured then it should be fine, she might walk a bit funny when you pop them on but it must be a strange feeling, make sure you take pics

I use old macs and don't have any expierence of the other types but would highly recommend them Rebanna. My two are rather different in type/build/everything really but the boots fit really well. www.oldmacs.com.au/well worth the initial investment

Hi Rebana after doing my research I concluded old macs BUT then measured Basil and his size fits Boa boots better- so I called the bloke at Hey Farm in Hudds who is usually quite helpful and he told me they are both made by Boa who bought old mac out and are very similar so it depends on size. when I told him Basils he said Boa for certain, however he did say the rollover on the old mac 2 toe was good. brig

When they have just been trimmed...the sizing allows for natural growth (although they get a bit tight this time of year when feet grow a bit more)
Hey farm are usually great as Brig says but i am a little peed off with them at min because my latest pair took nearly 2 weeks to arrive.....if I'd have known I'd have got my mum to collect them for me!! Anyhow thats my little rant for the day...usually stuff comes within a day or two

Becca, I think Bernie looks quite good in his boots (in picture on other thread). I'm still going to laugh at Faith though when she gets them...regardless of hether she actually looks silly or not! *does the silly 'ha ha' of that bully on the simpsons...um...whats-his-face...Nelson?*
