Well I discovered tonight that despite everyone thinking Eddies has driven in the past - she certainly doesn't like horse and cart coming towards her! We were on our way home and coming to the end of the bridleway when I heard it coming. So stayed on the track Eddie ears pricked listening. Next thing it comes trotting past, Eddie grew to 16hh but stayed put - good girl. However behind it came trotting another horse and rider - thats was too much, we turned tail and cantered up the concrete track - so much for taking her work slowly!!! Managed to pull her up and the rest of the way home she was a prancing snorty wreck! Thankfully we weren't too far from home. To pee me off further some bloke towing a trailer said out his window (as we were prancing up the verge) 'you need a riding lesson' Uh hello, my pony has just semi bolted, do you think I give a flying monkeys what my position looks like. It really upset me though (more than Ed taking off) I mean OK we were bouncing and I was not in dressage mode but surely I don't look that bad?? Just left me feeling really peed off.

I think you did well to stay on! Even if I'd managed to sit the semi bolt I prob would have got off and led her home! Ignore the man, some people are just plain mean and seem to get a kick out of giving other people jip. You need a quick retort like..."My riding (not that it needs fixing) can be fixed but your face can't" He prob knew absoultly nothing about horses, my friend who lived in a village used to get people stop in thier cars and say horrible things to her like, "why are you riding a pregnant pony" despite him being a boy! She just went with the B****r off comeback. You and Eddie have come so far and getting on really well so I wouldn't let this idiot ruin your day

Ah Scatty! Well done for staying on first, take no notice of idiots that don't know what they are talking about and we all know you ride Ed really well. There is no need for people to give their rubbish opinions. But some of them just can't help themselves!Hope she is ok next time you have an encounter.

poor olds Eds...I mean if the pony eating monster is already on one ponies heels who's to know when it might turn around and get you instead!
The world is full of tossers, best to just ignore, although it's silly little things like that that do upset you most.

Scatty - not that it means anything or takes away from the rudeness and impertance of the trailer guy - I would think he meant you need a riding lesson to control Eddie (ie riding on the verge) rather than he was commenting a la Carl Hester re your position. I have to admit that I did laugh (a tiny bit) at your tale - just so many awful things happening and this twerp with his stupid advice. Impressed at Eddie over the Pony and trap - that's something I have never encountered and knowing my boys (not to mention my need for riding lessons ) I wouldn't fancy it much. Great to hear you are out and about again

Well done for sticking with her, that in its self shows that you don't 'need' a riding lesson. Some people are just incapable of keeping their unwanted opinions to themselves.
I went up to see the ride come back in again this Sat and T the Twerp said 'Oh it must be so hard for you to watch us all coming back after having fun'. (Rub it in, why don't you!) Er no, if it was that hard I wouldn't go near the stables, it's harder being away from horses.

Thanks guys I'm over it now. You know whe it just really grates you (plus it's a certain time of the month so any little thing gets to me!!) The one and only thing P ever spooked at (as in his legs made it off the ground bless him) was a horse and carriage - they must be truly scary. Thankfully madam seems no worse for wear after her canter on the hard ground.

ha ha scatty- had a similar experience just last year. Basil saw one coming towards him and just planted, terrified. Each time it moved an inch he did one of his silly huge leaps and spins. One of the people on the trap got off and with the best intentions asked if I needed leading past! I was mortified but deep down I knew he would have gone past if she had been between him and the trap, however my pride wouldnt let me be led, so I got off!!!!!! Like Haffy says - the world is full of know it all tossers!
