It been so hard to get out in the morning recently (too many parties ;D) so after a long day driving to Nimes and then Mbottomille today I was desperate to get out in the calm and Fat Eric really needed some exercise.
We didn't get out until about 6.30pm but it was nicer than it has been for ages: the stultifying heat was made better by a little breeze and P was feeling quite full of himself (well, quite full of food actually).
I love the evenings here. The harsh midday sun which bleaches everything gives way to a gentler, golden light, which throws the mountains in to 3D again: you can see every fold and the colours are softer.
We went on my favourite short hack, down the hill, onto private property (I need to keep making the point) along vineyards, though woods, a little grassy canter (and Fat Eric was unusually lively) and then back up towards home.
We passed by the house of my neighbour who - too late! - realised it was me and phoned my mobile to get me to stop for a moment for a glass of rosé but by then I was chatting to another neighbour on the lane who invited me to their party on Saturday.
The hacking is hard just now. The ground is like concrete and although we should have a million stubble fields, the ones nearest me are too little to get priority from the combines, which are working day and night, so we are waiting .....
But it won't be long ;D ;D ;D
And then, of course, I flung myself into the pool which is at 28C and then into in ice cold beer.
Does life get any better than this? I am so grateful for so many blessings.
