Well arrived at my lesson Sat, got asked the ususal 'how are we getting on?' I commented that I was still frustrated at my leg position - walk and canter I can get it relaxed and back where it should be but it's still creeping forwards in trot. I continue to lift them 'out back and down' but they still do not co-operate. So Joanne asks me 'does Eddie lunge OK?' strange question when I'm talking about my legs but 'yeah she's pretty good'. Next thing she's appearing with a luge line, my stirrups are crossed, my reins in a knot and worst of all - my seat saver stolen from me (apparently it causes too much movement of the seat so not good when trying to develop a 'deep seat') I've been banned from using it!! And yes Sue was there videoing the lot (such a shame I can't get my videos on the PC )
We spent a good 30 minutes starting from me hanging on the neckstrap for dear life to eventually letting go, relaxing and doing transitions, including trot to halt with my seat alone - incredible feeling. Watching the video is really interesting - Eddie is almost in a perfect outline (would just need 'collecting in' slightly) so it just shows that it really is all from the seat and she was so much calmer and in a rythm when I was able to relax - one of the things that doesn't help is she is very fizzy so she speeds up, I then tense, she goes faster, and I forget to relax and slow my rising etc.
We did a small amout of rising trot, no gripping, just using the movement to slightly push me forwards - what I should be doing with stirrups rather than lifting up too high.
Took my stirrups back and felt like I was a jockey!! And they are already quite long but goodness I felt I could jump a x-country course with them. Really worked on trying to keep my leg relaxed - as soon as it's in the stirrup my muscles start working on overdrive again! Too much. Had another fantastic circuit where Eddie just dropped into a natural soft outline, I knew my hands were soft, I was relaxed and it all fell together.
Then had a canter. Lovely again on the right rein. Eddie then got a little worked up and we lost all our relaxed stance and motorbiked a bit but managed to collect ourselves a bit and ended on a good note.
I was incredibly sore yesterday - even my shoulder muscles from having to hold myself correctly ache! And you know my post about being saddle sore? Well I now think my instructor is a sadist! Friction burns are not comfortable!!!
