after saying for over a year that i will do it, ive finally resigned from nursing-the only job ive ever done since i qualified at 21 and have been there 13years. its a massive step but one thats slowley been coming. 3 years ago i was diagnosed with a hyper mobility problem which means i injure muscles very easily, i have to keep very fit and nursing i was told was prob the worst job i could do with it. i started my own pet sitting company not long after and have slowley built it up, i kept saying i needed to finish and take the business a step higher but have never had the guts, the last straw came though when my dad was suddenly diagnosed with cancer a month ago and has been having radiotherapy, added to that my grandad been increasingly frail at 90yrs old my poor mum needs more support looking after them both and it suddenly i knew it was right to leave. im sad to be going, i worked hard to get where i am right now but equally i am working hard to make my name and my business work, i do feel this is where i am meant to be, im a natural born carer and adore my animals. im doing a equine touch course next month and hope to do photography too one day. This means ill get more time with family, as no unsocial nights only weekends if i choose and hopefully it will keep me fit and healthy. fingers crossed i can make it work as i know now ill never get back into nursing. wish me luck annax

Good luck and hope all going well. My sister is a nurse and has slowly become more and more disalussioned over the years and will prob soon quit too. Its a shame that the powers that be, can't seem to keep good staff.

Well done for changing direction - remember it is the things we do not do that we regret....
Nursing will always be there, anyway. My sister is also another 'escapee' but does the occasional shift when she needs a sudden bank boost.
Good for you or having the courage to move on ;D

From what you have said it sounds like you are making the right choice, setting up on my own was one of the scariest things I ever had to do (even though I was setting up a business with a trusted friend) but at the same time it was the right decision and I have never once regretted it, even though it has now grown into a corporate beast and is not exactly what I set out to do.
Good luck with your new venture and I hope it brings you great success, rewards and most importantly of all - HAPPINESS!!!

Good luck, i wish you success - brave thing to do so well done My mum is a staff nurse and she likes her job but is totally sickened with the health service and says she wouldn't recommend it people to go into nursing nowadays. They've made a total hash of it like.

Its great that you have found something that is still in the caring field and you can spend more time with your family. Good luck with your new venture, I'm sure its quite exciting .

I think nursing has become so difficult. I should have resigned from nursing years ago. I kept putting it off until one day I was so sick I could no longer work. Period. Five years later and I'm still on medical leave and receive a disability pension.
It's very wise of you to change direction while you can. I wish you all the luck in the world, and what better way to earn a living then with animals.

Hey there, how brave to do what youve done and you will be happier for taking control and doing something positive. Check out the level 1 Open University Course (T189) for getting you started with photography, its all online and only ten weeks and it gets you started. I resigned my job recently and its been the best decision of my life! Hope its the same for you!

Good Luck with it all. My mum is a nurse and she loves her job but she isn't with the NHS anymore, she's now an occupational health nurse at a massive company in town (only nurse who works there in charge of like 2000 men) but they do have first aiders to help her. She was also a nurse at the the Uni and she hated it, she was demoralised there and before that she was A+E which she also enjoyed. She's also done other bits and bobs in nursing but I think she's happiest working privately. I don't think I could be a nurse, even though i like looking after children in that sense i'd be telling adults that they weren't really ill and they needed to get out of bed this instance
