I found myself in hospital unable to breathe and majorly panicking. Apparently I have a major chest infection and the antibiotics I was given before were not quite the right ones therefore did not do their job properly leaving me worse than before. Gotta admit though the staff in A&E could not have been better and really calmed me down and I feel gave me fantastic treatment and now I am on some interesting tablets that kinda taste like soap (not that I've ever eaten soap before). I think a big thank you to the NHS staff is in order because they do a great job and often don't get the recognition they deserve.

It was extremely scary especially for my mum who despite acting calm was twitching every time I had to have the nurses in to help me. Fortunatley the staff at Scarborough Hospital are always fab especially the nurses. The doctor I had was fab too as soon as he realised I had a sense of humour he was cracking jokes and really made me feel at ease. He's put me on strong penicillin and I actually feel much better but am having a couple of days off college so I can take my medication regularly to get it into my system.

That sounds really nasty. I'm glad the medication is sorted. When my dad was in hdu after a heart op the staff were wonderful and couldn't have done more for him. I have a great respect for them after that.

Your hospital sounds really good. I do feel sorry for your mum - she must have been panicking inside but trying not to show it.

The hospital is really good and always has been. When my gran was in hospital all the nurses and doctors took time to get to the know the patients so they could chat to them if they were nervous about stuff they knew about (my gran had the nickname trouble, they knew her really well ) and the same with lots of other family and friends. My cousin is a nurse there and we know how stressed she gets especially as she is A&E and often works friday and saturday nights which I can imagine isn't always great fun. It was quite weird watching my mum be so frightened because usually she doesn't scare at all or she is very good at hiding it but she genuinely looked terrified. It has definatley made me decide that I want to be a nurse now and give care on that level to other people.

That must have been very scary, but I'm glad you are sorted now, I think a few days off is a very sensible idea.

Was off all last week and have been in and out of the doctors all week for tests and suchlike, apparentley they are surprised that the medication I have had hasn't quite done its job properly which my doc is concerned about because apparently its very strong and should have cured me. Had a blood test today to test for glandular fever and I get my xray results tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Good luck. I hope they find out what is wrong. A friend of my sister has been diagnosed with a virus caused by volcanic ash. I haven't quite worked out how that can be.

It was just a chest infection and my xrays and blood have come back fine but they are going to test me for asthma if needs be. Kitcat is your sisters friend secretly superwoman in disguise . That would explain the virus .
